A teacher who stayed with him

Before the Hall of Fame, there was Elizabeth Whatley.

The right support can stay with someone for a lifetime.

Fran Tarkenton remembers what happened when a classroom explanation moved faster than his understanding. He sought out a teacher after class. He asked questions. He needed room to stop and work through the part he had missed.

Elizabeth Whatley gave him that room. She explained algebra directly, one problem at a time. Fran could interrupt when something wasn't clear, then keep going until it was.

“One-on-one, I could learn.”

Fran Tarkenton · The Next Play manuscript

That experience became part of how he learned throughout his life: find someone who knows, ask, listen, and put the understanding to work.

Now Fran wants to help more student-athletes find the support that lets their own potential come through. pipIQ Scholar begins with that purpose.

Story adapted from the manuscript. No learning diagnosis is stated or implied.

Respect the commitment. Understand the demands.

A demanding schedule.
A whole person behind it.

Talent and commitment are already there. The support needs to fit the life around them.

The calendar

The calendar keeps moving.

Classes, practice, travel, and competition can leave a narrow window to revisit a difficult lesson.

Different paths

People learn differently.

Some need to hear it again, read it differently, or work through it at their own pace. Some support needs have never been recognised.

What comes next

The future is bigger.

A degree, confidence, and the ability to keep learning matter wherever the next chapter leads.

Give every student-athlete a better chance to understand, participate, and move forward.

Personalised learning. Practical access.

Two ways to open up learning.
One student-first purpose.

About JamA11y

The pipIQ role: a branded access point and a defined privacy layer. The proposed connection uses institutional SSO; Jamworks supplies the learning and accessibility tools. The pilot will confirm access, data flows, and permissions.

More support.
Closer to the student.

A teacher, tutor, or learning specialist can change the direction of a student's experience. Scholar is designed to help that relationship go further.

Let's shape a campus pilot
Coaches

Champion support as part of developing the whole athlete. Make asking for help an ordinary part of getting better.

Professors

Give students more ways to engage with approved course material while keeping learning expectations intact.

Academic teams

Connect existing study support and accessibility workflows with the athletes who can benefit from them.

Help shape the first campus pilots

Bring your team.
We'll start with the learner.

Let's explore a focused pilot with your athletics and academic-support teams, built around the students, courses, and support you already have.

  1. 01Choose a student group and a campus academic-support lead.
  2. 02Agree which tools, materials, and access arrangements fit.
  3. 03Learn what students use, what staff value, and what should improve.

No promised grade increase. No new diagnosis. A practical opportunity to see whether better access and study support can make a meaningful difference.

Let's talk about your campus.

A few things worth knowing

Support with
clear boundaries.

Is this only for athletes with a diagnosis?

The pilot concept welcomes athletes with varied learning needs. It does not diagnose a condition or replace formal accommodations. The institution will determine appropriate support and any referral to qualified specialists.

How does this protect academic integrity?

The focus is reviewing, understanding, and practising. Recording and study-tool use must follow course and institutional rules. Faculty and academic-support staff help establish what is permitted.

Will coaches see students' private learning information?

Being a coach does not automatically grant access. The pilot will define authorised roles and appropriate information access with the institution. No diagnosis, private study conversation, or student record is exposed through this preview.

What will the pilot cost, and how does access work?

Scope, licensing, document volumes, support, and pricing will be agreed with the institution. Institutional SSO is the intended route; it has not been implemented in this concept site. This is a pilot invitation, not a working student login.

The lesson Elizabeth Whatley left behind

Someone saw how Fran could learn.
Help your athletes find that support.

Every practice is an investment in potential. Their education deserves the same commitment.

The story behind this page.

Fran's teacher account comes from the edited The Next Play manuscript: Elizabeth Whatley's one-to-one help with algebra. The brief quotation is reproduced from that account. No image of Elizabeth is fabricated or implied.

This concept uses existing products. It does not claim a completed SSO or privacy integration.
